
Department of “Control Systems and Robotics” was founded on January 21, 1991.
1991 – 1995 engineers were graduated from the specialties “Electric drive and automation of industrial installations”, “Automation of machine-building production”, “Robotic systems and complexes”.
1994 a postgraduate course was opened at the department.
1996 –1999 the graduation of engineers with the specialty “Automation and control in technical systems” was carried out
Since 2000 – graduation of specialists in the specialty “Control and automation systems” in the field of training “Computerized systems, automation and control”.
Since 2006 – training of specialists in the specialty “Computerized control systems and automation” was carried out in the field of training 6.050201 – “Systems engineering”.
In July 2009 the regional educational and scientific center of Sumy State University “Industrial Information Technologies, Electronics and Drives” (“PITEP” Center) was established on the basis of the Department of Computerized Management Systems.
Since 2016 specialists in specialty 151 “Automation and computer-integrated technologies” have been trained.

Speciality 176 – micro- and nanosystems engineering:.
1992 – merger of the Department of Applied Physics and the Department of Theoretical Physics with the creation of the Department of Theoretical Physics with the Section of Physical Electronics, which provided training in the specialities ‘High Voltage Engineering and Electrophysics’ and ‘Physical Electronics’.
01.04.1994 – establishment of the Department of Physical Electronics, headed by G.S. Vorobyov.
From 01.03.2010 – the Department of Physical Electronics changed its name to the Department of Nanoelectronics.
Since 2006, the department has been training specialists in the speciality ‘Computerised Control Systems and Automation’ of the training programme 6.050201 – ‘Systems Engineering’.
In 2011-2023, the head of the department was Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine O.D. Pogrebnyak.
From 01.06.20202 – the Department of Nanoelectronics was reorganised by merging the Educational and Research Centre ‘Surface Modification’ and renamed the Department of Nanoelectronics and Surface Modification.
From 01.11.20203 – the Department of Nanoelectronics and Surface Modification was merged with the Department of Computerised Control Systems.
