What Our Graduates Say
head of the Computer Technology Center, Sumy State University
1990-1995
I spent five years studying at the department. After graduation and until the present, I have been working in my specialty. I started in a company and continued at our university. I went from an engineer to the head of the Computer Technology Center of Sumy State University. The knowledge gained during my studies has always been helpful in my career advancement. As a student, I had an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of electronics and information technologies while doing internships, which allowed me to apply my skills in real work. I would like to note the professionalism of the academic staff and their perseverance. It was difficult to study but nonetheless interesting. The specialty I chose is up-to-date, and there are many opportunities for graduates to start working for top-ranked companies. Almost all my groupmates have achieved success and built a good career. My best wishes to the department as it moves forward. I always recommend to the applicants to choose this specialty to succeed in life.
AIUT, Poland
2012-2017
I recall my student years and studies at the department with a smile and a warm heart. Different situations occurred but thanks to every teacher of our department, the academic process was interesting. I am grateful to the whole teaching staff of the department for their support, help, and timely motivation. The study program offered by the department is structured in such a way that the students develop both theoretical and practical skills. Owing to the knowledge I gained, I was able to get my first job in the same field. The skills acquired while studying still help me at work and home. I am very happy to have studied at this particular department. I wish everyone good luck in their studies and hope the department will move on, prosper, and raise a lot of talented students.
AIUT, QA Automation Engineer
2015-2020
The department gave me all the tools for versatile development. The teachers laid a strong theoretical foundation for practical exercises, which I could perform after classes in the student laboratory. Do you want to be a programming specialist? You will learn the basics. Do you want to work with electronics? A soldering iron and a breadboard are always at your service on campus. Moreover, you can develop both programming and electronics engineer skills and become a system engineer after all. The academic activities held at the department do not limit themselves to classes; the students have lots of other opportunities: participation in an Olympiad, attendance of a scientific conference, or doing an international internship. During the study period, I took part in several RoboRace robotics competitions where I presented the self-driving car project which I completed at the department. The number of my participations in scientific conferences is hard to count. I also did an international internship at AIUT company in Poland where I currently work. The department also helped me to intern at Siemens company in Germany. Thanks to the department, I always have warm memories of my student years.
Private entrepreneur, software development
2007-2012
I believe that by choosing this specialty, a student gets an opportunity to obtain a sufficient level of basic knowledge in the field of information technology and later, to improve and develop this knowledge depending on the chosen pathway.
The advantage of the specialty is the combination of information technology, programming, automation, and microprocessor engineering that is of great value for building a career in IT.
Many thanks to the teachers of the department for the opportunities to develop, self-improve, and participate in research work, for their professionalism, abilities to teach and support which encouraged knowledge acquisition.
Ukrainian outsourcing IT company
2014-2019
The academic staff of the department are well versed in both theory and practice: they will help you accurately formulate your question and give you a detailed answer as to how this or that works in theory, in practice, and in real life.
The department gives everything that a real junior IT specialist needs: teamwork skills, effective questioning skills, and practical skills, as well as teaches us to learn from mistakes.
The department is the place where a “dry” theory takes on value when you use relevant methods and approaches directly in practice side by side with the teacher and other students.
Right here, I got a significant boost early in my IT career. As of now, I successfully use the learned principles of stability, reliability, and robustness of systems in web development.
I am very grateful to my teachers and non-teaching staff for creating a warm atmosphere, offering interesting lectures and practical classes, and providing me with an unforgettable stage experience 🙂
leading specialist of the Computer Technology Center, Sumy State University
1990-1995
At our department, I got thorough fundamental knowledge in the field of control and automatic control theory. Alongside this, I mastered the methods of multidisciplinary object-oriented and process-oriented systems analysis. I also learned the control principles of complex systems and optimization principles for better results by minimizing the waste of time, human and material resources. All this resulted in certain dynamics of my career advancement at the service of the Ukrainian state and people.
What Our Students Say
01.09.2019
In my time, I chose this specialty because of its versatility, and the department did not disappoint my hopes. The academic staff provides future specialists with good knowledge in the fields of programming and electronics. During the studies, one can always focus on some specific issues, such as programming on the way to becoming an embedded developer. The teachers will not restrict your choices. On the contrary, they can introduce some interesting tasks that would let you improve skills outside the classroom while still keeping in touch with the teachers and other students for consultations.

I have been studying at the department for not so long but I already understand I did the right choice on the way to my goals. The teachers here not only provide fundamental knowledge but also foster students’ self-development in their field of study. The classes take place in different environments that helps develop the core skills of future specialists, whereas the versatility of the study program allows to detect the student’s strengths and where they may get better results. Even so, there is no spirit of rivalry at the department; on the contrary, it offers a friendly atmosphere for students in different years of study and specialties.

I chose this specialty, primarily, because I liked the name; it sounded kind of cool to me. Secondly, already at school, the teachers of the department had been introducing lots of interesting things to us. To be honest, in the distance-learning mode, it is difficult to grasp the essence of the specialty. A more exciting experience of learning something new you get when you come to the department. I like that the academic staff of the department rewards the students with a good attitude and helps them develop in the field. On campus, you may get an assignment and profit by completing it in the future. For example, I got an exciting task of setting up a laboratory bench. I like to perform such tasks and confront with something new for me. In general, the specialty is attractive and we perform interesting tasks.

To be honest, at the beginning of my studies at this department, I didn’t realize well where I had got into. Later on, class after class, I came to a conclusion that I did the right choice as the department offers learning electronics, microcircuit engineering, programming, and much more. The academic staff engages students into different activities that speaks for the versatility of the specialty and the chance to choose something to one’s liking. The teachers here are good enough, some of them I even find very inspiring.
What Employers Say
Telemetry Division, AIUT Sales Department
We sent the trainees from Sumy State University to various workshops and laboratories – from electronics design and test rooms where they performed C/C++ and SQL programming work to automation installations where they applied industrial controls software (ladders, blocks, graphics, and structured languages) and robots. The background in physics and technics enabled the trainees to adapt to new conditions in no time as their duly training allowed a thorough understanding of technical documentation (drawings, diagrams, etc.). English was used for internal work in the company; Polish was also used with external clients from Poland. Some graduates, who now work for us, have adjusted to their new environment and already speak good Polish.
During their internship, the students improved the skills necessary to perform the assigned tasks at an individual pace. Talent, enthusiasm, and determination helped them adapt to new requirements. AIUT welcomed about 30 students for doing internships, so the individual approach significantly influenced their professional outcomes. The working language was English; a good command of it was crucial for an effective ideas exchange and understanding of the technical sides of the tasks, therefore, the trainees also focused on improving communication skills. Of course, communication efficacy depended greatly on individual abilities and former language training of the communicants.
Group of Engineering Companies “Automatic group” LLC has a long record of cooperation with the Department of Computerized Control Systems of Sumy State University. Some of its graduates were hired by the company right after they took the final exams.
We invite final-year students to do internships or work for the company. Our team is always ready to welcome the graduates from this department because they are taught how to act responsibly, think logically, and deal with projects of any complexity.
These graduates become young specialists and real professionals in the end. With the knowledge base gained at the university, they easily cope with the automation of production processes, not only in the field of our company´s activity (food industry) but also in other fields. Every day, our specialists face tasks related to the automation of technological processes of newly created industries, updating, debugging, and modernizing production activities. The key to success is basic knowledge of control and automation systems.
Another field of our activity relates to programming controllers and launching conveyor lines, where we use controllers of the top world manufacturers like Siemens. Such controllers are available for laboratory and practical classes at the Department of Computerized Control Systems. No wonder that the graduates already possess significant practical knowledge which allows them to be experts in this field.
Basic 3D modeling skills acquired at the university allow the graduates to create realistic models of the technological equipment and communications layouts on the premises and visualize individual machine nodes and parts. With enthusiasm, young specialists get involved in selecting robotic equipment for automation processes, information transfer, and robot control.
In today’s world, a strong theoretical base and practical skills in the field precondition both employment and career success of a young specialist, and the Department of Computerized Control Systems of Sumy State University provides such an extensive training.
